Head Coach     Rod Allen

Coach Allen begins his 6th season at Sabino H.S. and 3rd season at the helm of Sabino Baseball. Rod graduated from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Coach Allen started his "Arizona Baseball Career" as a graduate assistant at the University of Arizona under Jerry Kindall and Jim Wing.

Coach Allen's first year coaching at Sabino was the freshman 2003 season. His baseball experience runs deep having played infield at Bowling Green State University. He was a graduate assistant at the U of A with stops at Cholla and Rincon high schools. Rod was head coach at Palo Verde. He has participated in many baseball clinics and camps here in Tucson. Rod describes himself as a teacher, trainer, coach and is committed to the development and success of Sabino's future baseball players. His "Learn the Process" approach aids the development of Sabino's future players, and helps set the table for their future success.

 

Assistant Coach / Pitching Coach  Chuck Dickens

Chuck has been an assistant baseball coach at Sabino HS for the past 10 years. His past experience at Sabino HS has been primarily with the freshman & Junior varsity Programs. Chuck attended camelback HS in phoenix where he played baseball (pitcher). He played college baseball at Northern Arizona University (pitcher) where he graduated with a degree in Geology. He completed postgraduate studies in geotechnical engineering and hydrology from the California State University system and has owned and operated a hydrology consulting firm in Tucson since 1985. Chuck and his wife Kellie have three children, all of whom graduated from Sabino HS. Chuck has been on the board of directors of the Southern Arizona Baseball Association for the past 8 years.
 

Assistant Coach    Bobby Larson

Bobby Larson came to Tucson and began coaching at the University of Arizona in 1986.  He had the opportunity to work as a Graduate Assistant under Coaches Kindall, Wing, and Stitt.   Since that time he has coached numerous youth teams including Catalina High, pitching coach at Catalina Foothills and coaching his son’s teams in Little League, Pony League, and BAJA.  Before arriving in Arizona, Bobby played at Parkland Junior College and the University of Illinois.  His goals are to teach all of his player’s strong fundamentals, strategy, and respect for the game in a fun learning environment.  Bobby’s wonderful wife Robin is a native Tucsonan and counselor at Palo Verde.  His son Spencer is on the freshman team and his daughter K.J. is a 7th grader at Dodge.
 
Head Coach JV   Gil Escareno
Coach Gil has played or coached baseball for 45 years. Previously he was an assistant coach at Santa Rita, Nogales and Tanque Verde High Schools. His love of the game, experience and years of voluntary service make him a great addition to our staff. Coach Gil feels it is an honor for him to coach at Sabino where he can use his knowledge and experience to teach  the game to highly motivated student athletes.

Assistant Coach Varsity  Jerry Ledesma

A native Tucsonan, U of Arizona grad, Coach Jerry joins the Sabercat staff as a Varsity Assistant Coach. He is entering his 30+ year of coaching baseball. Well known in Arizona as a baseball man, his strengths include infield and hitting instruction. His experience includes coaching stops at Pima College, Salpointe HS and Pueblo HS. Currently serves as Vice President of the Southern Arizona Baseball Association.  Jerry and his wife Vivienne have 2 sons, Joey (23) and Stevie (19).

Trainer   Connie Rauser
 
Connie has been a Certified Athletic Trainer for about 20 years. She graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman with a degree in Physical Education/Recreation/Sports Medicine. She got her Master’s Degree in Athletic Training from the University of Arizona. After working at Pueblo High School (Tucson), Montana Tech (Butte MT), University of Idaho (Moscow), and Oregon State University (Corvallis) she found her way to Sabino High School and has made a home here. Connie provides not only quality care to the athletes at Sabino, while they are participating, but also acts as a mentor, a confidant, and a friend.

Assistant Coach/Strength & Conditioning Coach   Tom Sanderson

Tom is a physical therapist and co-owns Momentum P.T which specializes in orthopedic/sports rehabilitation and performance training and conditioning. Tom has designed and implemented numerous baseball performance programs (strength, conditioning, agility, power) for high school, collegiate and professional levels.

 

Tom played high school baseball at Catalina high school and then at the UofA for coaches Kindall, Wing and Stitt. Tom has coached his son’s youth baseball teams including little league, pony league and travel teams. Tom and his wife Amy have a Son Dean (15) and Daughter Sara (12).
